STOKENEWINGTON

Kitchen Extension

THE OBJECTIVES

The objective of the Stokenewington Project was to deliver a meaningful improvement to the kitchen and living space without creating the narrow, tunnel-like proportions that often result from modest rear extensions. The brief was clear: extend only as far as necessary, maximise usable floor area, and ensure the finished space felt open, balanced, and connected to the garden.

DESIGN AND BUILD

To achieve this, the existing rear wall was removed to open the kitchen fully into the new extension. Critically, the kitchen layout was not returned into the extension, avoiding visual narrowing and allowing the space to breathe. This design decision, combined with a high-specification glazed rear elevation, resulted in a 1-metre extension that reads as significantly larger—closer to a 2-metre increase in perceived space.

FINISHED WITH GLAZING

The glazed finish was central to the success of the project, creating a strong visual connection between the kitchen and garden and allowing natural light to flood deep into the plan. The transition between inside and out is seamless, with the garden becoming an extension of the living space rather than a boundary.

The result is a kitchen that feels wider, lighter, and more generous than its footprint would suggest—demonstrating how considered design, restraint, and execution can deliver maximum impact within tight constraints.

Working closely with glazing specialists IQ Glass to deliver a refined, high-quality glazed finish.
